In this webinar, gardener, green-roof pioneer and biodiversity advocate John Little will share his decades of practice transforming overlooked urban and suburban spaces into wildlife-rich gardens and public landscapes. Drawing on his experiments at his Essex plot (Hilldrop), his work on housing estates, schools, and municipal green infrastructure, John will explore how we can design ecologically productive public spaces and emphasise how skilled care and community involvement are central to thriving green places that bring 'nature to eye level.’
In the aim of improving the latter, he has founded a CIC, Care not Capital, with the core aim of investing in the gardeners that care for green spaces, instead of just the infrastructure. To this end, they fund free courses to community gardeners on garden ecology, biodiversity improvement, habitat creation, SuDS systems, and much more with the intention of supplementing their horticulture training with modern facing issues such as biodiversity decline and climate change. If people would like to contribute towards this there is a suggested donation as part of the ticket entry.
