This is a two day programme for Workforce Directors, Deputies, Associate and Assistant Directors.
If you book on this event, you are expected to attend both days - 14th July and 21st of July 2017 - 09:00am - 17:00pm at the same venue, Capsticks. Please ensure you book on BOTH dates when you register.
This two day programme links closely with our other two day programme on Strategic Workforce Systems. This event on high performing systems focused on organisation design whereas the Strategic Workforce Systems programme focuses on the related area of strategic workforce planning. You can attend both two day programmes or choose one of them, depending on your learning needs and availability.
You would never build a house without an architectural design. In the same way STPs need a well-designed healthcare system as well as great System Leaders if they are going to succeed. This 2-day Organisation Design Masterclass will develop HPMA members capability to design the environment in which Systems Leadership can thrive, giving them the tools to convert STP models and ideas into the reality of delivering their systems ambitions. The need to focus on population and patient needs as well as staff and organisational needs will be explored. Participants will understand how organising around purpose and meaning enables linkage between quality and value improvement with key organisational challenges such as staff engagement. We will also explore how governance can be designed and adapted. Attendees will apply some key tools to their own design challenges and consider these in light of the 12 tests of good organisation design.
Outcomes including HPMA competencies
- A clear understanding of the importance of organising work around the patient journey and not organisational processes, or functions
- Understanding the relationship between organisation design and organisation development
- Insight into when to use organisation design and the questions that are asked in a design process
- Understanding the importance of co-design and why engaging those affected will deliver great results that are owned by the people
- Increased experience and capability through applying key tools to real case studies and your own design challenges
- Increased confidence to influence leaders and managers to use a systematic and holistic approach to organisation design
- Increased experience in how to evaluate and test your designs
- Addresses HPMA Competencies: Strategic Operator and Change Catalyst competencies at levels 4
Pre-work
Participants are encouraged to explore what is organisation design and reflect on any experiences they have as part of their learning journey in preparation for this masterclass. Participants are asked to bring in a prior, existing or future design challenge for further reflection as part of this 2-day masterclass.
There are 30 places on this event. We want to ensure that all member organisations have access to our events. Where the event is oversubscribed, we reserve the right to restrict attendance to one person per organisation to allow all HPMA member organisations to attend.
