Event description

Description

Work has changed. Most offices haven’t.

New research has shown that good design is profoundly and quantitatively linked to the issues that keep executives up at night - employee retention, engagement, productivity and profitability.

You need real data to help make choices that satisfy employees and spark innovation without imperiling profits so we have brought together some industry experts to discuss how a human-centered approach to the workplace can have a huge effect on helping businesses meet their strategic goals.

MEET THE EXPERTS:

Bertie Van Wyk from Herman Miller

About Bertie Van Wyk

Bertie started with Herman Miller in 2006 after completing 2 degrees in International Business & Marketing. His contributions covered multiple departments within Herman Miller including Global Marketing, Business Development and Dealer Management. Bertie created marketing campaigns across Europe, Middle East & Africa and travelled extensively. Further development include Exhibition & Events Management, Web Management, Miller Heiman, Advanced Presentation Skills, Advanced Marketing and CEB’s Challenger™.

Speaking on Living Office

Living Office applies a deeper understanding of what makes us human to help create workplaces that deliver a more natural and desirable experience of work for people, and fuel greater outcomes for organizations. Revealing key shifts that are defining the most successful new workplaces, exploring different office settings that better meet the needs of today’s work, and discussing the trends that are changing the world of work.

He is also a frequent contributor for the likes of The Guardian, The Sunday Times, House Beautiful and BD Online.

Speaking on Biophilic Design

Biophilia (meaning love of nature) focuses on human’s innate attraction to nature and natural processes. It suggests that we all have a genetic connection to the natural world built up through hundreds of thousands of years of living in agrarian settings. Biophilic Design uses these ideas as principles to create a human centred approach that when applied improves many of the spaces that we live and work in today, with numerous benefits to employee health and well-being.

Businesses at the vanguard of work place design such as Apple, Google and Amazon are investing heavily in Biophilic Design elements. These principles are shown to improve worker concentration, engagement and cognitive ability but also to attract and retain staff in the “war for talent”. Productivity can be increased by 8%, rates of well-being up by 13%, increases in creativity, with reduced absenteeism and presenteeism.

Speaking on design & technology innovations

Mike will cover the latest trends in workplace design & technology innovations, and showcase how architects and workplace designers can take advantage of technology to design better collaboration spaces, both in traditional meeting rooms as well as more informal areas, to enable a truly agile environment.

Most people have had a bad experience with failing meeting room technology, where they struggled to get their meeting & presentation starting on time. Mike will uncover the latest innovations to simplify the user experience to avoid those typical technology issues.
