Event description

Description

The seminar wil be lead by Arun Sondhi, Research Manager, Therapeutic Solutions.

People identified as having a mental health need within public places may be detained by police under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act and escorted to a ‘health-based place of safety’ (HBPoS) to manage their condition. Qualitative interviews examined how a person detained under Section 136 was taken to a HBPoS in London during 2016 from the perspective of people with direct or lived experience of mental health distress (n=58) and from front-line operational staff (n=196). The process and pathways to a HBPoS was shown to be highly fragmented across London. Implications of the existing service delivery model is discussed.

All are welcome and it is free to attend. The seminar is being organised the Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (DARC), Middlesex University, all enquiries: Dr. Rachel Herring r.herring@mdx.ac.uk
