This weekend retreat combines yoga, mindfulness and countryside walking in the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside, just 30 minutes by train from London. After much indulgence over Christmas and New Year and busily looking after everyone else, it’s time to give yourself, or your nearest and dearest, the gift of a weekend specifically designed to help you relax, stretch and detox. Yoga classes will be flowing vinyasa sequences, suitable for all levels. There will be numerous mindfulness meditations, and other exciting activities, such as countryside walks, poetry readings, mindful dance, and a goal setting workshop. The weekend will rejuvenate your body, mind and soul; setting you up for a gloriously healthy and happy year ahead in 2017.
The programme includes four 90-minute yoga classes by Sherin Shefik, who will teach flowing vinyasa classes to music. Each class will be designed around one of four natural elements: earth, air, fire and water. You do not need any prior yoga experience to come along, as the yoga is suitable for all levels.
There are numerous mindfulness meditations, practices and discussions, which will be lead by mindfulness teachers Deborah Wharton and Shenel Shefik. We have a qualified walk leader for countryside walks and an excellent local practitioner of massage and reflexology can be booked in advance or on site.
The programme includes lots of other exciting activities, such as poetry readings, mindful dance and a goal setting workshop. The variety and fullness of this programme means that there is something for everyone, whether you come alone or with your partner or friends/family. You can do as much, or as little, of the programme as you like
The vegetarian dining is superb and is praised for its tasty, versatile menus. Head cook, Jo Hartley, believes in using fresh, local ingredients wherever possible. Seasonal fruit and vegetables, including herbs, often come from the walled vegetable garden. All dietary requirements can be accommodated. Tea and coffee facilities are available all day, and healthy snacks and homemade cakes will be served during the day.
Location and travel
The location is approximately 30 minutes by train from London Marylebone station, and costs approximately £23 return. We can arrange shared taxis from the station to the venue, which is approximately 7 miles away, and costs about £5-10 per person. If you prefer to drive, there are plenty of parking spaces at the venue, and it is just off junction 4 of the M40.
Sherin Shefik – Yoga Teacher
Sherin has been practicing yoga regularly for over a decade and teaches yoga professionally to a wide range of people. She mainly teaches vinyasa flow yoga, but combines lots of different styles of yoga, including hatha, yin, ashtanga, power and acro. Her aim is to teach energising and flowing classes, combined with soft and gentle sections, where the focus is on connecting the mind and body. Classes are suitable for all levels. Deborah Wharton – Mindfulness Teacher and Coach
Deborah teaches mindfulness wellbeing and coaches small groups of busy professionals. She is a qualified coach and mindfulness practitioner.
Shenel Shefik – Qualified Teacher and Mindfulness Facilitator
Shenel is head of psychology at a successful London school and incorporates mindfulness in her teachings.
Debbie Lawrence – Holistic Therapist
Debbie is available for massage and reiki healing sessions. This will be an additional cost ranging from £25 -£60.
Nigel Harding – Qualified walk leader
There are 13 guest bedrooms in St. Katharine’s main house: 2 ensuite doubles and 9 ensuite twin-bedded rooms, plus two single rooms with toilet and hand-basin (there are two bathrooms nearby). Room rates vary according to the type of room and whether or not it is shared. Most of the rooms are spacious. There is an additional annexe, called St Joseph’s, which has more basic accommodation for 12 people with shared bathrooms. The rooms will be allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis. We may be able to accommodate dogs too – but please ask first.
