About this event

This is a comprehensive set of workshops designed to equip colleagues with both the knowledge and skills to effectively introduce, implement, and embed a culture of positive mental health and wellbeing in their classrooms, departments, schools and beyond. The workshops have been designed to provide an overview of what research on mental health tells us, as well as providing a range of practical advice and guidance for developing a mental health strategy at all levels. The government wants every school to have a designated Mental Health Lead in place by 2025.

Intended audience:

Classroom practitioners, Middle/Senior Leaders, Youth Organisations, anyone with an interest in Health and Wellbeing.

Course Content:

  • Session 1: Raising further awareness about mental health and wellbeing
  • Session 2: Addressing misconceptions about mental health
  • Session 3: Considering what mental health challenges individuals may face
  • Session 4: Considering what strategies can be implemented to support individuals who are struggling
  • Session 5: Considering how to develop a whole school mental health strategy

Details about the presenter:

Laura Garner has been leading on mental health and wellbeing across the school and the Trust and is passionate about promoting awareness of this. The aim of the workshops is to encourage deep thinking about mental health and wellbeing, to consider early intervention and support strategies required for students experiencing poor mental health, and to help them cope and succeed.

Course Feedback:

Laura speaks with knowledge and passion about mental health in young people. Because she's an experienced pastoral leader and a champion for mental health issues, Laura has authenticity and can draw on her own experiences, understanding the landscape in schools. - Alison Walker, Director of Inclusion & Safeguarding, Maiden Erlegh Trust

The Mental Health Week that Laura ran at our school was revolutionary in the way we think about Mental Health. It opened all of our students and staff eyes to the signs of mental health issues and also gave everyone some tremendous advice on coping with this. Laura was superb in her delivery of all events. - Paul Gibson, Headteacher, Maiden Erlegh School
