Developing a multilingual ethos in your primary school

By SCILT, Scotland's National Centre for Languages

Overview

An in-person workshop for primary teachers and primary education students in Scotland

Every learner brings a unique linguistic background shaped by the languages they speak and use at home and those they encounter at school. Recognising and valuing this is essential for creating an inclusive environment where all learners feel seen, respected, and empowered.

The aim of this in person workshop is to increase teacher knowledge and understanding of multilingual pedagogies to help support multilingual learners.

In this workshop we will:

  • explore ways to develop a positive multilingual ethos that celebrates both home and taught languages
  • highlight the importance of creating inclusive language practices across the school
  • share cross-curricular approaches that support language development and enrich the overall learning experience

The workshop will take place in-person at The Ramshorn, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. We will be in touch closer to the time with joining instructions.

The University of Strathclyde is committed to transparency and to complying with its responsibilities under data protection legislation. Read our full privacy notice.
