Would you like to explore ways to build a genuine partnership with parents?
Would your school like help with developing a parent council or parent forum?
When parents are involved in their children’s education children do better on a range of measures. Parental involvement is thus a key lever for school improvement. All schools need to work closely with parents to achieve the best outcomes for their pupils.
Schools are legally required to have regard to the views expressed by the parents of registered pupils and Ofsted inspects schools on how they listen and respond to parents in the judgement on leadership and management.
This event for senior leaders, governors, teachers, parent support workers, parents, local authority advisers and anyone with responsibility for parental involvement will help schools wishing to develop a parent council or parent forum to improve parental engagement. It will cover:
Reaching disengaged parents
Listening and responding to parents
Finding the right structure for your school
Evaluating progress and assessing impact
Fiona Carnie has extensive experience of setting up parent councils and parent forums having led a DCSF-funded project on this subject.
