When parents are involved in their children’s education children do better on a range of measures. Parental involvement is thus a key lever for school improvement. All schools need to work closely with parents to achieve the best outcomes for their pupils. By setting up a parent council or parent forum schools are better able to listen and respond to parents' views.
This event for senior leaders, governors, teachers, parent support workers, parents, local authority advisers and anyone with responsibility for parental involvement will support schools in developing a parent council or parent forum to improve parental engagement. It will cover:

Fiona Carnie has extensive experience of setting up parent councils and parent forums having led a government-funded project on this subject. She has written widely about innovative ways of involving parents including The Parent Participation Handbook (2011) and Harnessing Parent Power (2013) both published by Optimus.
