Overview

Explore challenges in early language and discover how rich texts boost communication through practical, engaging EYFS strategies.

With increasing concerns around gaps in young children’s communication and language skills, it is more important than ever that Early Years classrooms provide text-rich, engaging and meaningful environments.

This session explores the vital role of stories and high-quality texts in shaping children’s language, communication and comprehension. Participants will gain a clear understanding of the challenges faced in early language development and the research that underpins the power of a text-led approach.

The session also offers practical, inspiring strategies for embedding a love of language and literature throughout continuous provision.

Participants will leave the session with:

  • A solid understanding of research into communication, language development, and text exposure
  • Insight into how text-rich environments support vocabulary, narrative and comprehension
  • Practical ideas for creating meaningful, text-led provision beyond basic vocabulary labels
  • Real-world examples of how to integrate texts across everyday EYFS practice
