Developing and Delivering a Pre-Course Work Experience Programme
Overview
To be accepted onto an Archives course, there is a requirement for some pre-course experience in the sector. Indeed, given the huge time and finance commitment required to do the course, it makes sense for individuals to have some prior sector knowledge and experience to make sure it really is what they want to do! But with stretched Archives services across the country, hybrid working, and greater security around access to internal systems etc, it appears that the opportunities to garner this experience are getting harder to find - as evidenced by our enquiry numbers!
We set ourselves the challenge of seeing if we could do something to help. At the end of 2024 we devised a full programme consisting of various activities that people could sign up to, some on-site and some remote. To date, 46 people have participated and we're looking at how we can extend the model out into the business.
Join us in this session to learn about how we designed the programme, how we deliver it as a team of 3 people, what we've learned so far, and what we're changing for 2026.
