Event description

Description

University of Southampton, Health Sciences, Complex Healthcare Processes Research Group Seminars

In this seminar speakers will showcase approaches to intervention development. The focus is on co-design using arts-based methodology, integration of research partners’ experience and expertise, and theoretical underpinnings.

Speaker information:

"Development of supportive interventions in cancer populations"

Dr Chloe Grimmett, NIHR research fellow and Senior Research Fellow in the Macmillan Survivorship Research Group, Health Sciences, University of Southampton will discuss the development of a web-based decision aid to support young women with breast cancer making choices around genetic testing for BRCA1/2.

"Modelling complex clinical interventions – a novel participatory approach"

Dr Sue Duke, Health Sciences, University of Southampton. Little is known about how best to model complex interventions delivered through clinical conversations. Associate Professor Dr Sue Duke will discuss the use of ethnodrama as a potential means of co-modelling contextually sensitive conversational interventions with clinical colleagues and provide a theoretical explanation for the space in which this process takes place.

"How design-research can re-do the ‘patient experience’ "

Alison Thomson is a lecturer in Patient & Public Involvement and Public Engagement in Science at Queen Mary University, London. Her background is in Design Interactions from the Royal College of Art. Much of Alison’s research involves understanding how healthcare users can contribute to co-designed health services and how health-care futures might be re-imagined through design research. Alison will present several projects that demonstrate some crucial aspects in designing with different groups of people – patients, clinicians, researchers and scientists.

Talks will be followed by a panel discussion. Chair James Wilson
