Speaker:
Dr Katy Newell-Jones is a consultant and trainer in education, with over 20 years specialising in health and social care. As a Principal Lecturer at Oxford Brookes University and Senior Programme Director at Health Education England Thames Valley, she led nationally recognised learning and teaching programmes for health and social care professionals including the Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Education and the MSc in Higher Professional Education. These courses were designed to support doctors, nurses, midwives, dentists and other health professionals develop as teachers, facilitators and trainers. Katy developed the Developing Dental Educators course which has supported the development of dentists in the Thames Valley, London, South West and Wales regions. She was awarded a lifetime National Teaching Fellowship by the Higher Education Academy in 2004 for her work on creative approaches to learning and teaching in the UK and overseas.
Aims:
The course aims to provide you all with a forum for discussion and learning around the role of the educational supervisor and the development and delivery of CPD.
Learning outcomes:
This day will provide an opportunity for participants to explore the learning styles of themselves and others and how this can improve learning relationships (morning)
- developing, planning and delivering tutorials and CPD sessions (morning)
- reflecting on tutorials and CPD sessions (morning)
- using the formal assessment tools for ADEPTs and CBDs (afternoon)
- giving and receiving feedback to learners (afternoon)
