A half day workshop and networking lunch for charity Chairs, Trustees and CEOs; exploring ways in which you can develop excellence in your Board.

What we will cover?

  • How to recruit, develop and retain the right Board members, with the right skills, experience AND behaviours;
  • Making meetings matter - how to effectively motivate, support and critically challenge your CEO.

  • Charity campaigning and political activities - lessons from the General Election;
  • Charity structures - risks and the benefits of incorporation;
  • Minutes and records - lessons from the Charity Commission's regulatory activity.

  • Developing processes that will give you the confidence to make decisions;

  • The financial information you need to show you how you are doing;
  • Assessing, monitoring and managing risks.

Champion Accountants

This event is being organised and managed by Donna Okell, nfp assist; Sue Harris, Champion Accountants, and Graeme Hughes, Brabners.  

Profiles of the event speakers are below:

Donna Okell is a mentor, facilitator and speaker in the not-for-profit community. She helps leaders, aspiring leaders and Boards of Trustees to develop outstanding organisations. Donna is also Vice-Chair of The NeuroMuscular Centre and facilitator of the Connect, Lead and Learn Forum for CEOs of Cheshire charities.

Sue Harris is Audit Partner at Champion Accountants Chester practice, and has worked extensively with charities for nearly 20 years'. Sue provides guidance on charity accounting and financial reporting as well as best practice advice on internal control systems and risk management. Her focus is on making charity accounts understandable to individuals from non-financial backgrounds.

Graeme Hughes is an experienced charity lawyer, at Brabners,  who has practised exclusively in charity law since 2010.  He advises on all aspects of charity law especially the establishment and management of charities, the incorporation of unincorporated charitable trusts and associations, compliance/administrative matters, governance issues, charity mergers, restructures and reorganisations
