Developing Effective Business Cases
Event Information
About this Event
* Please note this session is for HPMA members only**
Summary
Developing an effective business case is not an end in itself, it is a means to an end and that end is to:
- Make a good and timely decision that stakeholders own
- Enable the successful implementation of that decision
- Finally and most importantly, improve services to the public and patients…….the end goal
However whilst we may not all be as talented writers as JK Rowling, the ability to develop an effective business case is a skill that you can learn and then improve. The aim and objective of this workshop is to do just that. In particular it is a skill that NHS HR professionals can use to successfully further their careers.
Objectives
The half day will be interactive, stimulating, draw on a wide range of good quality business case tools and real life experiences and will cover;
- Reflections on real life business cases you have been involved in, the good bits and the bad bits
- The importance of identifying the real problem to solve (framing the decision)
- Developing and capturing a shared vision for what a good outcome would look and feel like for stakeholders
- How would you measure this good outcome?
- The art of constructing logical options (decision trees)
- Tools for helping us compare options
- The importance of telling “the story” in a clear, concise and logical way
- Finally how to improve your influencing skills, thereby facilitating more effective business case development
