Description

Developing Effective Communication and Interaction in the Early Years

This programme of learning will provide opportunities for schools to work together to develop their early years practice and to improve outcomes for children. A workshop and action based approach to the session’s enables leaders, teachers and support staff to consider national models of best early years practice while reflecting on the needs of their individual school communities. The exact content of each session will be determined by the needs of those schools attending but key areas and questions likely to be addressed within the programme will include:

  • What is a vision of excellence for the early years? What are the non-negotiables for excellence in an early years classroom?
  • How effective are we as leaders and practitioners and how do we know? Self-evaluation, audit & review?
  • How can we ensure that our teams are suitably language skilled and driven to meet the needs of our children?
  • What does a literacy rich environment look like in an early years classroom? How do systems for planning and assessment effectively promote communication and literacy?
  • How effective do we support children’s language through our daily routines? Do children’s needs drive our opportunities or are there other challenges which need to be addressed?
  • How effective are our current systems to assess children’s learning and to identify meaningful next steps?
  • How can we successfully support and challenge one another within a positive framework for continuing professional development? How do we communicate our expectations and vison for the early years in our school with all stakeholders?

This is a repeat of last year’s successful programme of learning. Suitable for a member of staff new to leading the EYFS. This is also an opportunity to upskill another teacher an teaching assistant from the EYFS team.
