Summary Actionable Insight – in a data rich world, HR’s focus is shifting from gathering information and ensuring its accuracy to a focus on the ‘so what?’ This workshop will help participants consider how to measure what matters and use information to deliver insight that informs and improves organisational performance.

Aim: The programme provides the opportunity for participants to learn more about best practice in HR measurement. Participants will explore different sources of data and how these can be used to generate insight. There will be the opportunity for individuals to reflect on their current levels of business knowledge and awareness and how this may be improved


Workshop content to cover:

Developing effective HR metrics – Orion facilitators will share recent research into different organisations approach to measuring HR effectiveness and seven principles for effective HR measurement

Working with Data – sources of data, collection methods , choosing the right option

Knowing your Business – practical activity to help assess current levels of knowledge about organisation and develop and individual action plan

Using Data to make decisions – covering hidden traps in decision making, intuitive vs analytical styles


Participants will develop:

- an understanding of different levels of HR measurement and their use in organisations.

- an awareness of different ways of collecting and using data to develop effective HR metrics

- an understanding of how we use data to make decisions and how this influences how we present data

- practical skills to assess their level of knowledge of their business and how to improve this

Target audience: HR Business Partners, PD and OD Specialists


Attendees should review current forms of HR measurement used in their organisation and come ready to discuss examples used and their relative effectiveness.


Jane Chesters and Amy Butterworth from Orion Partners -

Jane Chesters – Jane is one of the founding partners at Orion Partners – a leading HR Consultancy. Her client list reads like a who’s who of household names: from Sky, Harrods, DHL, Jaguar Land Rover and M&S in the private sector to Her Majesty’s Prison Service, Transport for London and Thames Valley Police. Jane leads teams to help clients formulate and assess people strategies, then makes sure they’re set up to deliver them.

She is also a visiting lecturer at Henley Business School on HR Management and is a qualified Executive Coach.

Amy Butterworth – Amy is an experienced change consultant and facilitator, with a passion for supporting people and organisations to transform behaviour and mindset and deliver business success. Amy's work focuses on building the capability of HR teams, enabling HR professionals to develop key technical skills (such as leading change and organisational design) and, crucially, the mindset and attitude for exceptional performance.

Amy has experience working across a range of public and private industry sectors. Her consulting clients include: Jaguar Land Rover, Sky, The Royal Marsden Hospital, Centrica, Dagenham & Redbridge NHS Trust and Moorfields Eye Hospital.

The session will address Business Focused competencies at level 2/3 from our HR Competency Framework.
