Event Details

This workshop aims to support participants to gain a better understanding of what security risk management means on a day to day basis and how organisations can identify what gaps exist within their security risk management practices and how those gaps can be addressed. Based on the EISF guide Security Risk Management: a basic guide for smaller NGOs, the workshop will demystify the security risk management process. By covering the elements of a basic security risk management framework, this workshop aims to support NGOs in translating their duty of care obligations into key processes and actions that will not only enhance their national and international staff security but also improve their organisation’s reputation and credibility.

In particular, the workshop will cover:

1. Defining security risk management – Why is it important? Examples of security risks that occur in the NGO sector and why is it increasing

2. Governance and accountability – What does this mean for the management team of an NGO and how they can make sure they are meeting these requirements?

3. Operations and programmes – Translation of security risk management into operations and programmes

4. Compliance and effective monitoring

5. Security collaboration and networks

The workshop will also look at what tools exist to enable practical development and implementation of effective security risk management policies and plans.

EISF is an independent network of security focal points who represent European-based humanitarian NGOs operating internationally. EISF is committed to improving the safety and security of operations and staff, strengthening humanitarian security risk management, to allow greater access to, and impact for, crisis-affected populations.

Tickets: £25 [MCF members], £50 [non-members]
