Event description

Description

The Household Costs Indices (HCIs) are a set of price indices that are currently in development. They follow the same underlying methodology as the CPIH (the UKs lead measure of inflation) but there are a number of differences that make them more relevant to the households experience of changing prices and costs. In December 2017 we published our first preliminary estimates of the HCIs, which look at the experience of a number of different household groups, such as retired and non-retired households, and households with and without children. These measures were also assessed against measures of household disposable income, to provide a better understanding of how different household groups have been faring in the economy over the last decade.

This presentation will talk about the evolution of the HCIs and how they differ from measures of consumer price inflation, along with details of our methodology and results, and our future plans.
