The Crown Estate has commissioned the Carbon Trust to assess the need for and value of creating a new, modelled (e.g. reanalysis) wind and metocean dataset for the UK Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

The objectives of this project are to:

Identify current and future wind and metocean data needs;
Explore how to improve access to relevant and high-quality wind and metocean data;
Inform and enable the development of a future national-scale spatial dataset that could address existing gaps and derisk, reduce costs and accelerate the development of the UK’s marine industries.

We are interested in your perspective on the wind and metocean data requirements in your sector.

In this webinar, we will share the outcomes of our initial research, walk through the draft Technical Specification for the dataset, and indicate what type of feedback we are seeking from stakeholders.

Mike Blair, Senior Technical Manager - Marine, The Crown Estate

Mike leads The Crown Estate's technical team, supporting multiple marine sectors through data creation, digital tool development and direct support to major leasing programmes.

Neil Adams, Manager, The Carbon Trust

Neil joined the Carbon Trust in 2021, and now manages the Offshore Wind Accelerator and the BEIS Floating Wind Demonstration programme. He brings a strong technical background in wind resource assessment, aerodynamics, structural dynamics and project/programme management.

Caroline Coccoli, Manager, The Carbon Trust

Caroline is a manager on the Carbon Trust’s Offshore Wind Advisory team, leading policy- and innovation-focused research projects in both established and emerging offshore wind markets. Prior to joining the Carbon Trust, Caroline led the initial development of the Scottish Government’s 2nd National Marine Plan, the statutory policy framework for Scotland’s marine industries and environment.
