About this Event

Developing ways to support adherence in women prescribed endocrine therapy after breast cancer.

We are pleased to invite you to our forthcoming Health Seminar that will take place on Wednesday 19 February, at 4.00pm, room TM1-03, Roding building.

Our speaker will be Dr Zoe Moon, King's College London

Summary of the presentation: Hormone therapy (HT) such as tamoxifen is prescribed to breast cancer survivors for up to ten years in order to reduce their risk of recurrence. Non-adherence to HT is common, with up to 50% of women not taking the medication as prescribed for the full duration, which is associated with poor clinical outcomes. However, interventions to improve HT adherence are currently lacking. This presentation describes the development and preliminary testing of a self-management intervention to improve adherence in breast cancer survivors. The intervention was developed following an Intervention Mapping approach in line with MRC guidance for complex interventions. A small pilot study showed the intervention was acceptable and feasible, with the potential to improve adherence as well as a number of secondary outcomes such as medication beliefs, distress and quality of life. This intervention has further developed as an app, which is currently being tested in a randomised controlled trial.

All are welcome. Please confirm your attendance by signing up for the session on this page.

Light refreshments will be provided.
