Event description
Don't miss your chance to learn about infrastructure in local planning developments!

About this Event

With the Government's drive for more and more housing , a common complaint is that development and infrastructure are not well linked . You get the new housing , but the upgraded roads, open spaces, schools , health facilities and other infrastructure necessary to integrate the development into the local scene lag behind , or - worse still - may not be provided at all . The result is often congested roads , difficulties in getting school places and doctor appointments , and a general antipathy to the new housing the country badly needs. The pressurised environment in Kent suffers its share of these problems.

This workshop will look at how the planning system tries to integrate development and infrastructure through the mechanisms of planning conditions, section 106 agreements , s.278 ( Highways Act) agreements and the newer Community Infrastructure Levy . How can you make these mechanisms work for you in delivering successful development and what are the problems and pitfalls that can get in your way ?

This interactive workshop will look at these issues in detail and provide exercises and discussion sessions to reinforce your understanding of this often misunderstood part of the planning system . The trainer is Lindsay Frost , who brings many years planning experience in both local authorities and consultancy
