Description

Target Group: Courses for all staff in mainstream primary and secondary schools, including Headteachers, SENCOs, Teachers and Teaching Assistants

Developmental Language Disorder (or SLI) is a little known condition, yet it affects around 7% of children. That’s about 1-2 children in every class. Children may struggle with understanding language, expressive language, vocabulary and speech sounds, without obvious cause or reason.

DLD can have long term effects, impacting on literacy, academic achievement, social skills, behaviour, mental health and long term life chances. That’s why it’s really important to identify these children as early as possible and put in the right kind of support.

Sheffield Speech and Language Therapy Department are now able to offer a range of training options for all education staff. We aim to enskill staff for successful joint working, to support these children in the classroom, the playground and for life.

The 2 day training course will cover:

  • What is DLD – Nature and impact?
  • DLD and Visual Support
  • Comprehension Difficulties
  • Expressive Language Difficulties including Grammar
  • Vocabulary and Word finding Difficulties
  • Speech Sound Difficulties, including phonological awareness

Dates: 13th and 14th March 2018
Time: 09:00 - 15:30
Cost: £150
