KS4/5: Developments of GCSE Trigonometryat A level
Appropriate for teachers with no experience of teaching A level Mathematics, this course shows how the trigonometry met at GCSE is developed at A level across all specifications. The day will include two model lessons, each followed by an analysis of the pedagogy, and subject knowledge sessions in which the mathematical concepts are explained and explored.
10.00-11.15 Introducing radians: Finding out why radians provide a more natural mathematical way of measuring angles than degrees and looking at some applications.
11.30-12.30 Deepening understanding of the sine and cosine rules: Problem solving, proof and using technology.
13.15-14.30 Double angle formulae: How you can calculate, for example, cos34° if you know cos17° and proving these relationships using diagrams.
14.45-15.45 Six trig ratios: Introducing three new trig ratios and exploring relationships between these and sin, cos and tan.
