Event description

Description

Join us for a free breakfast event looking at how policy-makers and government organisations can better involve people in decision-making. Devolution and digital both present opportunities to shake up the interaction between citizens and public bodies – but how do we ensure decisions actually end up closer to the people they affect?

Bringing together a mix of people from the worlds of government, tech and civic society, we will explore practical ideas for improving democracy.

We're thrilled to have some brilliant speakers confirmed:

  • Harriet Andrews, Director/Founder of The Politics Project

  • Paul Hepburn, Postdoctoral Researcher in 'local governance in a digital era' at the University of Liverpool

  • Jamie Whyte, Founder of Propolis Open Data Factory

  • Rebecca Rae-Evans, working on digital ethics with The Federation and Co-Founder of Tech for Good Live

Snacks, tea and coffee provided and we hope to see you there for a great morning of discussions and talks.

This event is part of the Practical Democracy Project, a series of events organised by Delib dedicated to looking at how technology can best be used to make everyday improvements to the democratic process – with a particular focus on policy-making at local and central government levels.

Through this series, we are continuing to map out how to create the best democratic experience for citizens in a practical way, using technologies that dominate people’s lives to aid this. We also aim to establish the optimal user-journey for government officials, policy-makers and elected officials, recognising that democratic processes are always a two-way street, and must work for both citizens and government to be effective.
