Description

In the morning there will be two talks, one by Michael Gee on Devon Orchards, and the second by Sue Minter on Walled Kitchen Gardens. Michael inaugurated North Devon's 'Save our Orchards' Campaign, was awarded a BEM for services to orchard conservation and is the author of The Devon Orchards Book. Sue, a former curator of the Chelsea Physic Garden was also head of Living Collections at the Eden Project and author of The Apothecaries' Garden, A History of the Chelsea Physic Garden and The Well-Connected Gardener, a biography of Alicia Amherset who wrote the first history of gardening in England. After lunch there will be an introduction to the history of the Tracey Estate and the restoration of the landscape being undertaken by the Furnival family followed by a tour of the grounds to explore what has been achieved to date. A light lunch is included in the price.
