Diaspora for African Development (DfAD) would like to invite you to a
Southern African Diaspora Communities in the UK:
Fostering Regional Solutions for the Post 2015 Sustainable Development Goals Agenda
at Resource For London,
from 9am to 5pm
and then to a Networking Reception, from 5pm - 8pm
As a Southern African focused non-governmental organisation (NGO) based in the United Kindom, DfAD has gathered through its wider African diaspora activities that the Southern African diaspora communities are underrepresented on the international development scene. This conference is therefore targeted at the Southern African diaspora communities in the UK in order to:
- Increase their understanding and participation in the post 2015 process and EU development cooperation
- Facilitate their engagement in development focused dialogues, and
- Create an opportunity for the Southern African Diaspora community to network.
The conference will establish a space for sharing best practice and new innovative ways of working that will promote a Southern African diaspora regional focused dialogue, thus enabling the formulation of diaspora led Southern African regional focused solutions in advancing the Post 2015 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda.
The conference will also see the launch of a DfAD led ‘Southern African Diaspora Communities International Development Forum (SADCidf)’ platform that will enable continued dialogue beyond the conference. The United Nations asserts that the success of the post2015 agenda depends on regional progress in adapting global goals to local needs.
As 2015 is a seminal year for development, it makes an opportune time to engage the community to disseminate the significant impact that these development processes will have on the Southern African region for the next 15 years. It will therefore be an honour to have you join us at the conference.
This event has been made possible by funding from the European Union via Bond. The conference is being delivered as part of the European Year for Development. To learn more and find out how you can get involved, please visit www.bond.org.uk/eyd.
When & Where
Diaspora for African Development (DfAD)
Diaspora for African Development (DfAD) is a UK registered African Diaspora led non profit organisation which aims to contribute to Africa’s sustainable social and economic development through harnessing the potential of the African Diaspora, with a focus on Zambia and Southern Africa.
DfAD believes that African Diaspora’s contribution as agents of Africa’s socioeconomic change should not be measured merely in financial terms, but as inputs of skilled labour and by its ability to build bridges between countries of origin and destination which help stimulate not only economic activity, but transfers of knowledge and cultural and social norms.
Therefore, DfAD does not only seek to engage, unveil and boost the capacity of the African Diaspora, but also to establish a database of key stakeholders in Africa’s development. Thus, skills, expertise and assets will be transferred to Africa, while strong connections will be forged between the African Diaspora and local development organisations.
