Introduction to a “blended interview” approach – guidance for applicants

DfT Resourcing Group (DRG) has recently introduced a new approach for recruiting managers to take when selecting people for jobs.

A “blended interview” approach has been trialled across the Department and has been a universally positive experience for both recruiters and applicants. A blended interview is a flexible style of interviewing which uses a combination of three distinctive question types to gather evidence of a person’s capability to do the job. In comparison to a standard competency-based interview, emphasis is placed on a person’s natural strengths and instinct (what they would do) in certain situations rather than simply what they have done in the past. The benefit of this is that it allows an applicant to demonstrate their potential in addition to their experience.

During this session you will learn more about what applicants have told us about their experience of this new approach and get hints and tips on how you can prepare if invited to a blended interview. There will also be an opportunity for Q and A at the end of the session.
