Event description

Description

Our schools need you!

Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) skills are vital to enable everyone to participate successfully in society as well as across all jobs, careers and occupations.

STEM Ambassadors are volunteers from a broad range of interests, jobs and backgrounds who are passionate about inspiring children and young people to upskill in STEM areas and pursue STEM studies and careers.

Becoming a STEM Ambassador means that you are connected to a national programme, which offers a free PVG Disclosure check, additional training and the opportunity to meet other STEM Ambassadors. You may already be doing outreach work, involved in inspiring young people into STEM careers or with the Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) programme.

Do you work in the:

  • Farming sector
  • Forestry sector
  • Digital Media or Business and Information Technology sector
  • Construction and Engineering sector
  • Food and Manufacture sector
  • Energy sector
  • Creative and ENtrepreneurial sector

Do your hobbies and interests include:

  • Woodworking and Construction
  • Knitting and Sewing
  • Photography
  • Coding and Gaming
  • Arts and Crafts

To support the STEM and DYW work taking place in our early learning & childcare centres, primary and secondary schools we would very much encourage more of our local enthusiasts, employees and employers, many of which will have strong associations to our local schools, to become STEM Ambassadors. We have organised STEM Ambassador Induction sessions, across Dumfries and Galloway.

As a STEM Ambassador, you can provide the link between employers and the workforce of tomorrow, demonstrating the value of STEM education and skills in life and careers. Together, we can help to tackle the STEM skills shortage and empower the next generation by opening the doors to the opportunities which come from pursuing science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) subjects.
