Diabetes School Staff Study Day

About this Event
This event is a combination of online learning and face to face workshops to help school staff develop their knowledge, skills and confidence to support pupils in their management of Type 1 and 2 diabetes.
Who can attend:
Teachers and school support staff caring of children and young people with type 1 and 2 diabetes. Children and young people must be under the care of either Kings College Hospital or Evelina London. Due to restrictions on group sizes, a maximum of 3 members of staff can attend each study day.
What is the training:
There are two aspects of this training
1. Virtual learning:
Participants will be sent out a link to course module a few weeks prior to workshops. It is essential that this is completed in full prior to attendance to workshop. The module aims to provide theoretical side of management including topics such as:
• Insulin Injections and Insulin Pumps
• Blood Glucose Monitoring
• Management of High and Low Blood Glucose Levels
• Carbohydrate counting and healthy eating
• The emotional impact of diabetes on a child or young person
2. Practical Workshops :
A half day workshop will run on the 29th of January. The aim of this workshop is to help consolidate the theory learnt on virtual platform.
Please note that admission to this workshop is on the condition participants have completed the virtual modules and quizzes prior to the day. The day itself will focus on the practical aspects of diabetes management including:
• Injection Techniques
• Diabetes Technology (i.e. pumps, CGM's, flash glucose monitoring)
• Emergency management of hypoglycaemia
• Practical’s of Carbohydrate Counting
