Diabetic Foot Module

To be held at the Wellcome Collection, 183 Euston Road, London, NW1 2BE

19th February to the 23rd February 2018

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Healthcare professionals and Podiatrists who are HCPC registered and who are working or wish to work in specialist multidisciplinary diabetic clinics or as part of an extended team.

This module aims and objectives are :-

  • To further develop participants knowledge in all aspects of diabetes
  • To further develop participants ability to understand complications that occur in people with diabetes.
  • To further develop participants ability to understand, in depth, the podiatric complications that occur in people with diabetes.
  • To further develop participants podiatric clinical skills assessing in people with diabetes.
  • To increase participants confidence in identifying people with diabetes who are at risk of developing foot pathologies secondary to the disease.
  • To assist participants to formulate short and long-term podiatric care plans for patients with diabetes, with emphasis on multidisciplinary team work and prompt specialist referral when necessary.

SUBJECTS TO BE COVERED

  • General Diabetes.
  • Revision of Physiology, Endocrinology, Control of blood sugars, glucose tolerance levels etc.
  • Psychological/psycho social and Nutritional advice. Effects on major body systems.
  • Pharmo kinetics and current medications.
  • Biochemical, microbiological, neurological and vascular changes.
  • Management of the diabetic foot including blood sugar control, deformity prevention and control, screening, biomechanics, ulcer, wound management etc.
  • Classification of foot lesions.
  • Normal and impaired wound healing and microbiology.
  • Neuropathy and neuro ischaemia.
  • Vascular Surgery and interventional radiology.
  • Off loading strategies and Biomechanics and footwear.
  • Vascular problems of the lower limb.
  • Including micro and macro vascular physiology, veno arteriolar responses, micro vascular abnormalities.
  • Podiatric surgery.
  • Multi disciplinary team working.

ABOUT THE COURSE

The Diabetic Foot Module has existed for 32 years and is accepted as a leading course in the UK, for podiatrists specialising in Diabetes Healthcare .

It is an intensive training programme delivered by over 20 lecturers. The programme is constantly reviewed and updated to promote the highest levels of academic and clinical practice.

Whenever possible we try to use leading clinicians believing this to be the key to the understanding and sharing experience of this complex disorder.

Candidates are given access to many different specialities and aspects of diabetes care. The course will include demonstrations, workshops and a viva examination. All candidates are advised to undertake pre course reading prior to attendance and will be sent reading lists and papers.

The syllabus has been designed to meet much of the Podiatry Competency Framework for integrated diabetic foot care.

Our course has a structured written curriculum and programme.

The course has specific, documented learning outcomes which are linked to the skills for health competences.

The course is evidence based both educationally and clinically.

The course is given by – Leading specialists in their respective fields from across the UK.

The course provides – Comprehensive cover of diabetic foot diagnosis, management and treatment.

DETAILS

The cost of the February's Diabetic Foot Module is £650

This includes tuition fees and examination costs. Lunch and refreshments are provided.

The course will start at 9am promptly and finish for 6pm except Wednesday which will be a 6.30 pm finish. On Friday there will be a VIVA examination with one patient. Each candidate will be given times to attend during the course and everyone will be away for 5pm. There will be no need to bring any equipment or clinical attire.

The course is very popular and intakes are limited.
