Description

Dialolical Writing Workshop and Retreat
Hosted by Murmurations: Journal of Transformative Systemic Practice

Facilitated by the Editors: Dr Gail Simon, Dr Liz Day and Dr Birgitte Pedersen

10th & 11th June 2019, Brathay Hall, The Lake District

For dialogical and relationally attuned practitioners from all professional backgrounds!

WHY A WRITING RETREAT?
This may be the moment to just do it! Time is elusive. One needs to grasp it, protect it. This is a space for reflexive practitioners to invite others through your writing into the detail of the extraordinary dialogical space we call systemic practice. Maybe you want to write something in particular. Perhaps you want to play, experiment with finding a voice, a nib, a style, a form. Maybe you just want a peaceful space with others who are also writing to start producing some words. This is the space for those activities.

In the workshop we will discuss writing as a relational activity. We will explore what helps writers find a voice or style with which to write. Perhaps you want to get your writing published. There will be plenty of space for you to develop some of your writing. We will experiment with writing in different styles and discuss how to get the heart of what matters.

WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP AND RETREAT FOR?
This writing workshop and retreat is for relationally reflexive practitioners who want to write about their work or themselves in the first person as a practitioner. By the end of the retreat, we hope you will feel increased creativity, inspiration, engagement and a spirit of adventure.

GAIL SIMON
I have always written: stories, poems and plays. Now I lead writing workshops for practitioners who wonderful and moving tales to share. I lead writing workshops within the systemic community and have written and presented on practitioner writing at national and international conferences - for example, on writing as a form of inquiry, relational ethnography, writing as relationship, performative writing, reflexive and collaborative writing. My doctoral research was on Writing (as) Systemic Practice where I experimented with creative and ethical ways of writing from within practice coherent with systemic ways of speaking. In addition to leading the Professional Doctorate in Systemic Practice at the University of Bedfordshire, I run a small systemic publishing tent, Everything is Connected Press, and have co-edited two books on systemic research and systemic therapy. I qualified in systemic therapy in 1993 at KCC and my practice home is The Pink Practice, a queer systemic therapy practice in London.
