Dialogue & Debate: Women’s Pandemic Perspectives
Event Information
About this Event
In honour of International Women’s Day 2021, this Dialogue & Debate webinar explores women’s perspectives on living through the COVID-19 pandemic, in terms of inclusion and equality of opportunity. Our panellists will offer intergenerational perspectives on what we can learn from the past year and explore how we might move towards a fairer society, post-pandemic, in which gender equality is reflected in policy and practice.
What will we be discussing?
COVID-19 has not only been a global healthcare emergency, but also a social and economic one. Economic relief packages have been rolled out to support diverse workforces, and critical workers and families of frontline workers have been supported with childcare, but have the needs of the nation been fairly addressed when it comes to gender?
Before the pandemic, women in the UK were already more likely than men to be in low-paid, insecure jobs, to face discrimination in the workplace, to carry out unpaid work (for example, as housekeepers and/or carers), and to be subjected to domestic abuse and harassment. Multiple reports indicate that, during the pandemic, these gender-based issues have increased.
This webinar looks at the different experiences of women through the pandemic. How have priorities changed? What are the implications of juggling life and work commitments under increased strain? What can be done to ensure equal support while the country recovers?
This webinar is presented by our Programme Officer, Emily Gow.
