Dialogue With The Deceased Workshop with Stefan Charidge

When clients bring deceased (family members, discovered suicide, a miscarriage, abortion (chosen or imposed) or a stillborn into the session, you may feel stuck or unsure what might help (even become traumatised by their or your own history). This session will offer different ways to work effectively and compassionately with your clients.

Participants will be invited to bring a case study/scenario (real or imaginary), within this experiential training. All are invited to care for themselves and seek additional support should something be triggered. If you feel the need, I can offer an individual session. Just get in contact (before or after the training).

We carry the deceased with us. Some as a loving and lost energy, and others as a hex or limiting belief.

Often, people carry a burden and might say something like “They wouldn’t like it if…….”, “I never had the chance to …………..”, “It still haunts me”, “It was my fault”, “They are gone now, and it’s too late”, “I must carry on their …………..”, “What would they say if I broke family tradition”, “They would know what to do (eg Mum knows best)”.

Remember, the body can’t tell the difference between reality and fantasy. So as we think, so we feel.

This way of working (projection and chair work), might fit your client’s needs. All would depend on the strength of your working alliance, confidence and clients' availability to work in such a way. The only way to find out is to invite the client to try.

This session offers compassionate language to support healthy closure and/or repair.

Clients may say something like: "But they are dead, it’s too late, and nothing can change". This is a client’s belief. Possible responses could include “What is the worst that could happen?”, “How do you know this?” or “Whilst we cannot go back in time to change things, we can change how we experience the past as well as our beliefs”. Changing a belief can change a life.

Often, people can try to stay connected in a painful/life-limiting way (with love or hatred), which can be multi-generational, and this training will offer ways that could help.

While working with the deceased, there may be many twists and turns, and what is on offer can help you and your client stay on track.

Several processes will be talked through (influenced by time and participants’ involvement/questions, and working is in the here and now; therefore, we will not cover all in one session:

Some elements that will be covered:

1. Giving back something that doesn't belong to oneself or is unhealthy. We always need to feel connected, no matter how emotionally or physically painful. Which can be multi-generational.

2. Compassion: Towards self, someone or something.

3. Supporting clients who experience a miscarriage, abortion, stillborn, or cot death.

4. Aggression: Discharging unhealthy aggression.

5. Seeking advice or permission.

6. Exploration of one’s intimacy (In-To-me-See), accessing one’s intuition (Inner-tutor).

All of the above leans into chair/projection work and can support a person feeling more complete and at ease (completing a fixed Gestalt/belief or way of being).

The session will NOT be recorded for confidentiality reasons.

I am also available for supervision or a few private sessions, should you feel the need. You can email me via charidge@gmail.com.
