Días de Cine: 'Tasio' (Montxo Armendáriz, 1984)

Instituto Cervantes in Manchester organises "Cinema Days: learn Spanish with cinema", a series of study sessions for students of Spanish and film lovers with the teacher Ana Valbuena, with whom those attending will be able to learn and enjoy the best films in Spanish. On this occasion, we celebrate Spanish Cinema Day by engaging with our cinematic heritage — an essential source for discovering and understanding our visual culture of the 20th century.

Following an introduction in accessible Spanish and a full screening of Tasio, with English subtitles, attendees will be able to practise their Spanish language skills using a specially designed study pack on the film's main topics.

A conversational level in Spanish is recommended.

Synopsis

Tasio has worked as a charcoal burner since the age of fourteen in a small village in the Navarre region, nestled in the Urbasa mountains. Life changes, but the forest remains ever the same: rugged and beautiful. It is the setting of his childhood games, but also the place where he finds the means to support his family.

As he grows older, he adds poaching to his charcoal work. Despite it being a time of rural exodus, with many migrating to the cities in search of a better future, Tasio chooses to stay and live in the mountains, in complete solitude, in order to preserve his freedom.

El Instituto Cervantes de Mánchester organiza «Días de Cine: aprende español con el séptimo arte» unas sesiones de estudio para estudiantes de español y amantes del cine con la profesora Ana Valbuena, con la que los asistentes podrán aprender y disfrutar con el mejor cine en español. Además, en esta ocasión celebramos el Día del Cine Español acercándonos a nuestro patrimonio cinematográfico, una fuente imprescindible para conocer y comprender nuestra cultura visual del siglo XX.

Tras una introducción en español accesible y la proyección de Tasio, con subtítulos en inglés, los asistentes podrán practicar sus conocimientos de español con un paquete de estudio especialmente diseñado sobre los temas principales de la película.

Se recomienda un nivel conversacional de español.

Sinopsis

Tasio trabaja como carbonero desde los catorce años en un pequeño pueblo navarro de la sierra de Urbasa. La vida cambia, pero el monte permanece siempre igual: abrupto y hermoso. Es el escenario de sus juegos infantiles, pero es también el lugar donde encuentra el sustento para su familia. Cuando se hace adulto, al carbón añadirá la caza furtiva. A pesar de que es la época del éxodo rural, de la emigración a las ciudades en busca de un futuro mejor, Tasio prefiere quedarse y vivir en el monte, en la más absoluta soledad, con tal de salvaguardar su libertad.
