· of African heritage with a desire to work with the African continent and increase their local knowledge, whilst giving back during the program?

· a friend of Africa with a desire to volunteer within community projects and increase local knowledge?

· either a Degree / College level film production student?

· a trainees on a study GAP year?

· an aspiring film-makers / writers; OR experienced film-makers / writers interested in teaching?

· desiring to learn new skills OR a skilled person interested to train others in a unique on the field program?

· a corporate group interested in using your volunteer days to give back to Africa via an on the field training program?


Background:

AFFORD is excited to be collaborating with Creative Storm Networks (CSN) the producers of Ghana Police Watch to offer to enthusiastic film producers the opportunity to gain 2 weeks of training and experience learning film production for a live TV series in partnership with Ghana Police Service.

Started by Executive Director Dr. Kwesi Owusu, one of Ghana’s leading film producers who holds decades of experience working in the creative media industry, Creative Storm Networks are producers of Ghana Police Watch project, which includes the flagship TV series in partnership with Ghana Police Service. Aimed at raising public awareness about crime prevention generally and enhancing police accountability, the weekly Ghana Police Watch TV series also serves as an engaging platform for public discussion of policing issues in Ghana and the West African sub region. The popular series is broadcast on 15 TV stations throughout Ghana.

Their aim is to contribute to the transformation of Ghana Police Service becoming the best police force in Africa – so those involved in the training will be contributing to something meaningful in Africa.


Course Outline:

Creative Storm has production and post – production facilities in Accra, including filming and editing studios, so participants may choose to train in (or share their skills in) any of the following areas or disciplines:

  • Video Filming

  • Drone Technology

  • Sound Production

  • Music Composition and Film Score

  • Editing (Final Cut and Adobe Effects)

  • Set Design and Props

  • Graphics and Animation

  • Photography

  • Production Management

  • Programming and broadcast

  • Media Publicity and PR

  • Social Media Communications and E Marketing

Participants can pick and mix from this list to suit their needs and interests

Dates:

There are 10 places available for each intake.

There are three intakes a year. (Do make sure to email jacqueline@afford-uk.org with details of which intake date you are registering for as you make your payment)

  • 3rd-17th March 2019

    • celebrate Ghana Independence day in Ghana!

  • 31st March-14th April

    • be part of the commemorations for 400 years return events

  • August 2019

    • spend your summer holiday in Ghana and add on a tour for a cultural immersion and enjoy the Chale Wote street and arts festival as an added benefit

  • 20th October-3rd November 2019

    • during Black History Month in the UK take part in a project on the ground in Ghana,West Africa


Charges:

The cost of registration per participant is 1600 GPB total for 2 weeks (when paid in full...payment plan available)

You can make a full payment or if a payment plan is preferred then all three payments must be cleared and paid within a month of the intake date you have selected.


Inclusions / Exclusions:

The cost of registration per participant includes accommodation.

Participants are responsible for their flight to and from Accra.

The charges also includes airport pickups and return, orientation days and the trainings on the ground.

Not included:

· Flights

· Vaccinations

· Daily meals – do make allowance for food each day around 10£ or 60GHc

· Local transport for personal travel (for eg. trotro buses to go into town if desired)

· Extra expected costs include also phones and laundry


What to expect:

With facilities on the ground including a studio complex and editing study, participants will be involved in various activities on the road with Ghana’s local police and also with community representatives. Working through an extensive training plan on live projects they will be able to utilise the skills learnt on the training which includes:

  • To be trained by Dr Kwesi himself who has a wealth of film production experience and tap into his extensive resources and strong contact within the industry including the National Film Institute Ghana

  • To work with Dr Kwesi’s production training team of 7 people – they are a professional resource in different disciplines of film production.

  • Working with the Ghana police service in-house video and production team

  • Program certifications at the end for participating in the production of Police Watch program

  • To build an ongoing relationship between CSN and trainees with the possibility for trainees to stay on or to go back and work with Kwesi and his team.

  • Opportunity to include cultural immersionTo be part of a corporate volunteering program offer

    • introduction to Ghana

    • gain an understanding of Ghana – culture and political economy

    • study tours and field trips added on


Delegates will also benefit from:
