Dickens and Film
Event Information
About this Event
Do you have a favourite Dickens film or TV adaptation? How many do you think you’ve seen? Charles Dickens was one of the first authors to have his books adapted to the screen – around 100 films based on his novels were produced in the silent era alone. Since then, Dickens has remained a perennial favourite, so what is it that causes script writers and producers still to love his stories? What makes the works of a Victorian author remain relevant in the 21st century? Join Lucinda Hawksley, author and direct descendant of Charles Dickens, in conversation with scriptwriter, film lecturer and author James Clarke. After the discussion, there’ll be time for an audience Q&A.
