Event description

Description

The Dickens’ Birthday Lecture, organised in association with the Dickens Fellowship, began in 1999, to celebrate one of Portsmouth’s most famous sons born here over two hundred years ago. Dickens himself returned to the High Street in Old Portsmouth to visit the site of the Theatre Royal, now occupied by The Portsmouth Grammar School, where he was presenting Nicholas Nickleby.

In this, our 20th anniversary year, we are delighted to present a staged reading by Gerald Dickens – great, great grandson of Charles – of a work in progress To Begin With, based on Dickens’ work The Life of Our Lord, to prepare for the first ever UK tour.

The lecture begins at 7.30 pm and all members of the school community and of the public generally are warmly invited. Complimentary drinks will be available before the performance.
