AD PARNASSUM and ensemble of L'OFFERTA MUSICALE di Venezia present their original production 'Dido & Aeneas' to Finedon before embarking on a tour to Italy and Spain.
Purcell's masterpiece, unique for its time, epitomises the English taste for mixing spoken verse with music and dancing; and with the addition of beautiful costumes and even puppetry, not to menion fine musical support from one of Venice's most accomplished ensembles, this take on a classic work is likely to make quite an impression.
‘If (Ad Parnassum) keep up this standard, they should go on to great things…This is a young…ensemble of great promise, and they certainly deserved the rapturous reception from their audience.’ Bristol Post (on 'Dido & Aeneas')
‘The orchestra, five strings and harpsichord, and directed by Riccardo Parravicini, provided a deliciously dark accompaniment. It revelled in Purcell's dotted rhythms, and it all added up to a thoroughly stylish performance’. Bristol Post (on 'Dido & Aeneas')
