Event description

Description

The workshop is specifically designed to challenge existing assumptions and approaches and will include a confronting practical exercise that will encourage you to think differently about the people you work with. It will introduce the principles behind an ethnographically informed asset-based approach in a workshop format.

This was the approach behind ‘The Deal, the highly acclaimed whole-council transformation programme undertaken in Wigan in recent years. This training was designed to re-energise practice on the frontline and to empower practitioners in their day-to-day case work. The tools that were introduced can be broadly understood as an asset-based approach informed by ethnographic principles, and are known as different conversations.

The public face of The Deal is a series of public pledges between the council and residents and local stakeholders, but underlying these is a completely new way of delivering services defined by a new relationship between local residents and the council.

This workshop is for paid and unpaid staff who work in health and care in the borough of Lambeth.

Trainer: Dr. Robin Pharoah worked with Wigan to design The Deal and developed and delivered staff training to over 400 frontline staff in the borough (including Social workers, OTs, Health visitors etc.). He works with a wide range of public and private organisations in many different sectors in the UK and worldwide.

Registration: Registration is from 9.30am with a 10am session start time.

Refreshments: We will provide tea, coffee, snacks and lunch for all attendees.
