Event description

Description

Neglect represents the main category of abuse for children with child protection plans and is a major factor in serious case reviews. This course is for all staff, who work with children and vulnerable adults, particularly those who have long term continuing relationships with them. It follows on from the threshold seminars run in 2018-2019 as practitioners wanted to explore these areas more. It is relevant for investigators (Police and social workers) and referrers alike. The title reflects the skills involved in broaching this subject with parents and also communicating and sharing concerns to partners.

The seminars will discuss non-compliance and consent issues as a key component of risk factors in neglect which we have learned from serious case reviews. SCR’s also tell us that it can be difficult to define the point at which you take action, whether that is simply talking to the parent or making a referral or carrying out a formal assessment. Demands on parents and carers can be extraordinary, especially when children have a disability and/or have complex needs or where there are severe financial problems. This course helps staff to use our new neglect tool with parents to help with these issues.

***This training is offered free of charge to people who work in the public and voluntary sectors, who are represented on the safeguarding partnership board (a small charge is payable for those in the private sector, £80 for a full day training and £40 per half day training, you will be issued with a free ticket but you will be invoiced later).
