This event brings together speakers from the digital and technology sector to share their professional experience. The panel will discuss their lived experiences in the sector. They will talk about the skills you need to succeed in this industry, the current challenges they are facing and future innovations, and they will offer advice on getting into the industry and how you should position your international education when coming back to the region. Each panel member will speak for a short time to outline their career and will then be asked to comment on key discussion themes listed above. You will also be able to submit questions to the panel before and during the event.

Panellists include:

Cecily Chao - Vice President Operations, iUKOS. Cecily studied biomedical science for 4 years and felt she needed more challenges. Leaving home at 18 she has lived in the UK, Singapore, Shanghai and is now in Taipei. Following her science background Cecily felt that she needed more challenges and so she pursued an MA in Medical Ethics and Law at King’s College London and graduated in 2010. Cecily has worked in the healthcare sector and digital & tech industries. She grew and developed in corporations but has proven herself in start-ups too. Cecily looks forward to sharing her experiences with our students.

Hang Guo - Senior Key Developer Growth Manager, Google. Hang holds an MSc Innovation Entrepreneurship and Management from Imperial College Business School and he is currently working at Google as a Senior Key Developer Growth Manager. Hang is taking care of developers in Greater China to acquire new users and increase user engagement in the overseas markets by leveraging Google Ads solutions. He received the top rating (global 4%) in his annual performance review twice within four years at Google. Before Google, he worked at NGOs in Dubai and Shenzhen for more than 3 years.

George Zhao - Software Engineer, Honor Device Co. Ltd. George graduated from the MSc Applied Machine Learning course at Imperial College London in 2021. He now works at Honor Device Company as a software engineer. Currently he works on the delivery process of the mobile phone product line, as well as the development and maintenance of the DFX platform. His work involves locating and fixing bugs, adding new features for the platform, and generating documents for existing modules. It can be described as fun and engaging most of the time, and of course, highly rewarding, and promising.

Atif Rauf - Delivery Lead, HSBC. Atif is originally from India and came to the UK on a scholarship to do A-Levels at Shrewsbury School, a private school. He then got 1st class honours in BEng Computing from Imperial College London. After this he joined a software company called Citrix as a graduate in Cambridge having previously completed an internship with them in the penultimate year of university. After working for them for over 2 years he decided to move back to London for a financial software company, FactSet and since then he has been working in the financial industry mostly in London which includes working at Barclays, Deutsche Bank and Schroders. In 2019 Atif got a chance to join HSBC in Hong Kong and has been there since then and is loving it there.

Qingrui Zhang - Level Designer, Activision. Qingrui (Ray), is a Level Designer at Activision Shanghai Studio (a studio under Activison Blizzard). Ray studied at Imperial from 2015 to 2019 and got his MEng Computing. At uni he was in the Chinese debating society and met a lot of friends who he played board-games with. After graduation he joined Netease as a mobile platform game designer for about a year. Then he went to a start-up game studio as a level designer for another year (also in mobile platform). In late 2021 he joined Activision Shanghai and started working on Call of Duty series (more specifically, the zombie mode). His duties mostly include designing and implementing the layout of the game map and the quests players will play in the game. Also a designer needs to communicate with co-workers from other teams (arts, animation etc.) to gather resources to implement the game.
