Glasgow Caledonian University, Creative Scotland and Bafta Scotland are hosting an afternoon looking at the state of the games industry in Scotland today. There will be three sessions, followed by a hands-on showcase of games, accompanied by light refreshments. The afternoon events look like this:-

Colin Macdonald, games commissioner at Channel 4 and Head of All4 Games, gives his worldview of games in Scotland, looking at new creative and business models and what,in his view, are the challenges faced by creatives, producers, broadcasters and start-ups. The debate will then be opened out to a panel of experts including Jon McKellan of NoCode, Tony Gowland of Ant Workshop and Mike Cox, studio head of digital entertainment company, Blazing Griffin.

15.00 - 16.00: Creative Scotland presents: Art in Play

16.00 - 17.00 BAFTA Scotland presents: The Game Changers

Adding representational diversity to games is important and for the past few years the situation has been improving both through advocacy groups and through titles such as Far Cry Primal and Life is Strange. Sally Blake, Associate Producer on The Division (Ubisoft Reflections), Kish Hirani, Chair, BAME In Games and GCU’s Dr Romana Ramzan discuss their personal desires for increased diversity in games, the progress that has already been made and the obstacles we still need to overcome.

Later that afternoon, We Throw Switches and IGDA Scotland will welcome attendees to an evening reception showcase of Scottish-based games creators, in partnership with Creative Scotland and BAFTA Scotland. The evening will feature work created by talented teams and individuals across Scotland, as well as an opportunity to chat with board members from the Scottish chapter of the International Game Developers Association. Register for that event here.

Find the venue for two events (the Hamish Wood and then CEE buildings) here.

Registration is at 13.30 with the panels kicking off at 14.00.
