Digital Essentials - Trends, Tips and Skills for the Digitally Connected Professional

23rd November 9am to 4pm - Haverfordwest (Venue TBC)

Programme

We are living in an increasingly connected world with access to friends, professional networks, content, software and services, hitherto unimagined, all available with the click of a few buttons. This one day 'Digital Essentials' workshop delivered by Sangeet Bhullar (from WISE KIDS and 'Digital and People') - will provide key insights into how the Internet and digital technologies are evolving and how these technologies can be used personally and professionally for benefit.

Covering the key themes of 'The Social and Educational Web' and 'Digital Professionalism', the workshop will cover essential knowledge and skills on topics like 'Information Literacy and Crap Detection', 'Creating and Managing an effective Digital Footprint', ‘Accessing Cool Tools and Cool Communities’.

Outcomes:

As a result of this day, you will:

  • Gain insights into how the internet and online technologies are evolving and the opportunities these present for 21st Century education and learning

  • Gain insights into the challenges presented by digital communities and environments and how best to address and manage these

  • Gain insights into what we mean by a Digital Footprint and explore how this can be developed positively and authentically

  • Gain an understanding of key information literacy and 'crap detection' skills in an 'Age of Fake News' - to assess content and contact online

  • Gain an insight into how social media platforms like Twitter can be used purposefully and professionally to discover new information and resources, develop professional networks and stay up-to-date

  • Gain an overview of useful multi-media apps and tools to create and share content online

  • Understand legal issues and best practice to use social platforms safely, professionally; also what support is available in the UK

  • Experience ‘live-blogging’ to see how to easily create and share content


Who is it for

This workshop is suitable for ACL tutors and other Professionals interested in Digital Skills and Competency. It will feature an interactive and hands-on format with presentations, exercises and 'Masterclass’ style demos.

Equipment to Bring

To ensure delegates get the most benefit out of the interactive and group based activities, they are invited to bring their own mobile phones and tablets (with Google Chrome installed) with them.

About the Trainer and ‘Digital and People’

Dr Sangeet Bhullar is the founder of the ‘Digital and People Project’ which works with organisations and professionals to develop their digital skills, confidence and competency. She is also the founder of ‘WISE KIDS’ a non-profit company promoting Innovative, Positive and Safe Internet Use for young people and those who work with them. Sangeet has developed and delivered training programmes, led research projects, written guidance, advised schools and organisations and spoken at conferences internationally on the topics of Digital Literacy for the Knowledge Economy, Digital Literacy in Education, Youth and Digital Citizenship and Online Safety.
