Ways of seeing, ways of writing:

Creative Writing Workshop and a virtual Ennerdale tour

February 6th, 2021

What does ‘Wild Ennerdale’ mean to you? Does this place inspire you to write? Do you enjoy taking photographs of this landscape? Maybe you have stories to share, or visions for its future. Why not take a day to be creative and explorative while wandering through a selection of short films, images and writing focused on Ennerdale? As well as entering the world of nature writing and landscape photography, the day will invite consideration of nature and wildness, the culture of land use in the uplands, and the process of landscape change.

The workshop, led by Harriet & Rob Fraser of somewhere-nowhere, will offer prompts, tips and short exercises. The workshop spans the day. There will be live online gatherings 09.30-11am; 12.20-1pm; and 3-4pm, with opportunities for writing, chat and feedback in between times.

We’re keeping the group intimate to allow time for discussion and one-to-one feedback. There is no charge. Places are limited to 16. You must register for a ticket via this Eventbrite page in order to secure your place.

General Information

Please note that we cannot accept bookings from outside the UK for this particular live workshop, due to difficulties in shipping material overseas in the current national UK lockdown – but please note that all the workshop materials will be made live on the Land Lines website following the workshop so that anyone can take part in the workshop and use the materials in their own time!

Please register for a ticket in order to book your place. Upon registering for this event you will receive a confirmation email asking you to fill out a consent form – you will need to complete the consent form and submit it in order to attend the workshop.

All participants will be sent a goodie-box of inspiration in advance. You must include a Shipping Address for these materials to be sent to when you register for your ticket. Digital resources will be made available on the day and will remain online following the workshop. If you’d like to share work produced during or after the workshop, there will be an opportunity to have this included in an online exhibition in the Spring.

Further details, including a link to the online session, will be circulated a few days in advance of the event.

If you would like further information, or have any queries about the workshops, please contact us at landlines@leeds.ac.uk.

If you have signed up to the workshop and can no longer attend, please cancel your ticket and let us know via email (landlines@leeds.ac.uk), as there will be a waiting list for the event.

Please note that you can only register for one place on the workshop. If you would like to register a place for another person, please make sure you do this under their name and details, rather than your own. This person will also need to complete their own consent form independently.

This workshop is part of the Tipping Points project based at the University of Leeds, which is dedicated to encouraging engagement with nature and participation in nature-related creative activities, and raising awareness of wilding activities in the north of England. The Tipping Points project is part of Land Lines at the University of Leeds. It is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, part of UK Research and Innovation.
