Description

This event will give attendees a greater insight into digital marketing for freelance interpreters, with sessions on: "Unlocking the power of digital marketing for freelance interpreters", "Writing Content that Gets Your Clients' Attention" and "Website Design for Translators & Interpreters". It will help both more advanced and less confident colleagues to market and grow their freelance businesses more effectively online.

Programme

10:30-11:00 Coffee and welcome

11:00-12:00 "Unlocking the power of digital marketing for freelance interpreters" with Martina Eco, 3P Translation

Martina Eco is an Italian freelance translator and interpreter specialising in marketing translation and web/app localization for the tourism and food industries. As an interpreter, she has worked at several international events, from large conferences and business meetings to film festivals and trade shows, mainly in the fields of business, lifestyle, gastronomy and media. Martina is currently studying marketing at London South Bank University, where she is also working as a small business consultant. You can find out more about Martina on her website at www.3p-translation.com and connect with her on Facebook (3P Translation) and Twitter (@3ptranslation).

Martina will look at how the internet offers numerous ways to market freelance businesses effectively and at a very low cost. This seminar will provide the basics of the marketing theory we can apply to promote and grow our interpreting businesses, and will explore a range of digital marketing tools that we can use to establish our digital presence.

12:00-13:00 "Writing Content that Gets Your Clients' Attention" with Dr Jonathan Downie

Jonathan is a consultant conference interpreter (French to English, English to French), author and researcher on interpreting. He is a regular speaker at industry conferences across Europe and won ProZ Community Choice Awards for Best Twitter (Interpreting), Best Book (Interpreting) and Best Conference Speaker (Interpreting) in 2016. His first book, 'Being a Successful Interpreter: Adding Value and Delivering Excellence', was published by Routledge in 2016. He is a permanent columnist for the ITI Bulletin and VKD Kurier and has written for Conference News, Executive Secretary magazine and Flight Time, the inflight magazine of Flybe.

Jonathan will explore what happens when you start writing expressly for clients: from adding how-to posts to your own blog to writing for the magazines they read. He will cover the entire process, from deciding on a target market and doing early research, through selecting target publications, pitching, to delivering great articles and making sure those articles are publicised widely.

13:00-14:15 Buffet lunch and networking with colleagues

14:15-15:00 "Website Design for Translators & Interpreters" with Meg Dziatkiewicz

Meg is Creative Director of Websites for Translators, specialising in web design, marketing, brand development and account management within the translation and interpreting industry. Over the last 7 years, she has helped to develop brands and businesses for clients from over 30 countries. Since 2010, she has continued to develop and expand the skills she gained during her degree studies in Marketing & Advertising, and has particularly enjoyed being able to apply them to help translation and interpreting businesses bloom.

In this session Meg will look at how to mark your presence, make your website client-friendly and explore how the right blend of design, content and branding can work to your advantage. By the end of the session you will have more information on possibilities that await you online, ways of creating a website, how much effort is involved, what you should expect your website developer to ask, what to put on your website if you're an interpreter & how to make a good use of your website once it's live.
