Event description

Description

Led by Craig Warnock and Anna Dolphin

In this session we will be exploring digital tools using iPads or tablets for creative music making and how these can be used with children in the early years. We will be looking at how these tools can be used to encourage fun social interaction, and will also consider some of the challenges involved, including around screen use.

Anna delivers creative music making to increase wellbeing and values access to creative expression for everyone. Working with acoustic and digital music, sound making, and mixed-media approaches in healthcare settings, education, community and outreach, Anna’s work currently includes Rhythmix Wishing Well, Open Strings and Our Future City projects. Anna completed the HE Certificate in Music Workshop Skills course in 2012 and Masters in Studio Composition at Goldsmiths in 2010.

Craig has been leading group workshops and individual sessions with young people for several years, teaching multi-instrumental skills, composition and songwriting, recording and production techniques, especially incorporating iPad use. He has worked extensively with young people in challenging circumstances and with a range of learning disabilities. Craig also has experience leading urban youth orchestras, has been a mentor and trainer for young music leaders, and has delivered training to staff in digital music making.

OUR FUTURE CITY EARLY YEARS MUSIC PROGRAMME

Our Future City is delivering a pilot early years’ music programme across Brighton & Hove until February 2019 offering new, holistic and sustainable early years music to benefit children under 5 who are most in need in Brighton & Hove.

The programme includes network and workforce development, high-quality, targeted musical activity and embedded research & evaluation practices. The programme is being designed and delivered by SoundCity partners, Children Centres and OFC partners, including arts, health and education professionals.

What's on offer?

The pilot activities are exploring new settings for early years music making, and new musical repertoire, tools and techniques. As part of this work, we are able to offer monthly professional development and networking sessions for Early Years Practitioners across the city from June 2018 to February 2019.

The offer is open to anyone working in early years music from Brighton & Hove and the surrounding area and the sessions are suitable for early career practitioners as well as the very experienced. Please do share this opportunity with others you think may be interested.
