Event description

Description

This one-day workshop will take you inside the modern newsroom to explore new and emerging news-gathering techniques. You'll develop the attitude, skills and knowledge of the digital tools which will help you build lasting, productive relationships with the contacts that make a difference to your work.

We'll look at content too: how you can make the most of social media platforms, and how you should change your communications to take account of mobile devices and ever-decreasing attention spans.

Whether your audience is journalists, influencers, the public, other stakeholders or your own staff, you'll find this regularly-updated session inspiring and challenging.

What we'll cover:
• How digital is changing the media
• Twitter and Hootsuite - advanced use of the Twitter social network and social media management tool Hootsuite. How to use these to build new relationships and to monitor what audiences are saying.
• Social media in a crisis
• Content: What works and what doesn't
• Video That Gets Results
• Key components of your online press office/newsroom

There will be practical hands-on exercises, group discussion and insight from the journalistic career of the course leader, Colin Kelly MCIPR. He has a 20-year career in journalism, working in both local newspapers and broadcasting. This course is up to date and very relevant for communications professionals.
