Digital Placemaking Seminar

An evening seminar exploring how digital technology is being utilised to enrich designs, communicate ideas and enhance people's experiences of the public realm. We will explore elements such as web-based information exchange, digital apps for public realm regeneration, and the use of Virtual Reality (VR) to assist community engagement and design.

After a short introduction by Illya Sparkes-Santos and LISW committee member Sarah Jones-Morris on the potential future of data exchange and web-based technology, presentations will follow from key speakers:

_ Jo Morrison from Calvium, Bristol

Jo Morrison works at the intersection of design, research and enterprise. Focusing on digital innovation and multidisciplinary collaboration, she has a wealth of experience of directing digital projects for the creative industries, culture and education sectors.

At Calvium, and in her postdoctoral research, Jo explores urban innovation for hybrid space (physical+digital), with the aim of creating more pleasurable, sustainable and citizen-centred future cities.

_ Amanda Gregor from Witteveen+Bos UK Ltd, The Netherlands and London

Amanda is an Urban Designer with a specialism in community engagement and social sustainability and is interested in how we can design more inclusive spaces. Completing her Masters in Sustainability Science at Lund University Sweden and a postgraduate degree in Urban Design in London, Amanda’s approach to urban design is influenced by Scandinavian design principles and how theses can be applied in a UK context.

Amanda is developing further design techniques including using Virtual Reality as a tool to engage more effectively with stakeholders. Alongside her role at the Dutch engineering firm, Witteveen+Bos UK Ltd, Amanda is an integral member of the community-led initiative: Peckham Coal Line. The project aims to create an elevated park and cycle route from disused coal sidings in South East London which is currently undergoing a feasibility study.

Witteveen+Bos UK Ltd has been shortlisted for the Healthy Streets Award: Best Innovation category for Virtual Reality as a tool for Engagement.
