Digital Resilience for Wellbeing in the Primary Classroom
By Twinkl TeachMeet
Online event
Overview
Join us to learn how to guide children's safe and literate use of digital tools and exploration of the online world.
Our speakers Becky Dawson (National Wellbeing Lead at Twinkl) and Caroline Allams (CEO of Natterhub) will explore the challenges of keeping primary-aged children safe, whilst also encouraging them to recognise the potential benefits of the online world for our wellbeing.
Promoting Online Wellbeing and Connection
- Foster Positive Use: Staff will gain strategies for actively encouraging their children to use online platforms and tools in ways that support their wellbeing, creativity and healthy social connection.
- Model Digital Empathy: Staff will understand the link between online behaviour and real-world consequences, and learn how to coach their children in practising kindness, respect and 'netiquette' (digital manners).
Navigating the Digital Balance
- Identify the Dual Nature: Staff will be able to articulate the difference between digital risks (e.g. inappropriate content, privacy issues) and digital opportunities (e.g. connection, creativity, learning) for primary-aged children.
- Shift the Narrative: Staff will learn how to move beyond a purely defensive approach to online safety, confidently incorporating language that promotes the positive uses of technology for learning and wellbeing.
Supporting Digital Resilience
- Build Coping Strategies: Staff will understand how to help their children develop resilience to handle and bounce back from inevitable challenges (e.g. witnessing unkindness or seeing upsetting content) by encouraging them to 'Stop, Close and Tell.'
- Know When/How to Intervene: Staff will be able to identify signs that their child may be struggling with their online experiences and will know the reliable resources (including Natterhub-aligned approaches) available for support.
